The Traveling Jazz and Blues Workshop
As an inspiration to budding musicians, Basse has developed a program designed as an educational experience and a community development platform. The program consists of Basse working with high school music teachers and their students. He teaches them about the history of jazz and blues, and how the two musical forms merged in Kansas City’s historic jazz district.

Prior to the Workshop, Basse communicates with the school’s music teachers to develop curriculum activities to prepare the students for the program. Over the course of one week, Basse works with the students to plan, rehearse and produce a musical program they present as a concert at the conclusion of the week. The concert can be used as a community event to gain support for the school’s music program and can also be held as a fundraiser by selling tickets.

Workshop Costs
Costs are determined by the number of days involved in pre-planning, rehersal and actual day of performance. The fee includes meetings with school music teachers, three to five days of work sessions with student musicians and a performance at the concluding concert. You are encouraged to schedule meetings of local civic groups and service organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary where Basse can present a brief explanation of the program and encourage support for music education and attendance at the concert. Scheduling the Workshop
To accommodate David Basse’s busy performance schedule, the workshop should be scheduled several months in advance. A 50% deposit on the Workshop fee is due at the time it is scheduled.Approximately four weeks prior to the Workshop Basse will communicate with the school’s music teachers to establish a plan for curriculum and working sessions the week of the Workshop. The week of the Workshop, Basse will be available for teacher and student meetings as well as presentations at civic and service group meetings.
