A
celebration of the life of Byron L. Butch Berman
was held 4-10 p.m. Easter Sunday, March 23 at The Cornhusker
Hotel, 333 South 13th Street in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska. Butch
Berman, veteran of many Lincoln rock bands and founder of the Berman
Music Foundation, died January 31 after a four-month struggle with
brain cancer. He was 58. Both jazz and rock musicians participated
in the Easter Day celebration of life, with vocalist Karrin Allyson
as the headliner. David Basse was also there with Kansas
City's legendary saxophonist Ahmad Alaadeen, in addition
to Kansas City pianist Joe Cartwright, bassist Gerald
Spaits and drummer Ray DeMarchi. For more information
about this special event visit www.bermanmusicfoundation.org.
For
Valentine's Day David appeared at two events: Blue Room Valentine's
Day Celebration/Thursday, February 14th, featured
the Charles Williams Quartet and some very special guests,
including saxophonist Bobby Watson and vocalists Luqman
Hamza, Ron Gutierrez & David Basse. On
Saturday, February 16th from 6:00-9:00 P.M. the Jazz Bands of Shawnee
Mission West High School hosted a dance featuring big band music
of the 1940's. A special guest appearance was made by David
Basse. The dance was held at the Lenexa Community
Center, and was a fundraiser for the Overland Express Jazz Ensemble
of Shawnee Mission West High School.
Early
this year David traveled to Toronto, Canada for the prestigious
